About Neon Race

Aim for the red car. Leave the purple one alone. That is the first lesson to keep in mind in Neon Race, where a collision can be part of a good run instead of the end of one. Red traffic supplies turbo, and you need quick times to open the later courses. LongAnimals built eight tracks around that mix of driving, collecting and deliberate smashing.

The boost buttons are X and N; either does the job. Before using one, look at the stretch ahead. If you are already correcting a poor line, adding speed gives you less room to sort it out. Try making the corner work first, then use turbo where you can actually keep the extra pace.

Cash collected on the road pays for upgrades between races. The publisher names wheels, acceleration and turbo among them. Pick with the last attempt in mind. A slightly better car is useful, but so is remembering where you lost the time. The SuperCar is the longer-term reward for beating the track times; reaching it starts with improving the course you are on now.

How to play Neon Race

Meet the course time targets, unlock all eight tracks and work towards the SuperCar.

  1. Use the arrows to drive and learn the first stretch of the course before committing to turbo.
  2. Smash red cars to build the turbo supply. Steer clear of purple traffic.
  3. Collect cash and power-ups along the route. Use X or N for turbo when the road ahead gives you room.
  4. Finish within the required time to open the next race. Spend cash on improvements before retrying a troublesome course.

Tips for a better round

  • Make sure you have identified the traffic colour before steering towards it. Red supplies turbo; purple is trouble.
  • When you narrowly miss the target time, think about the worst section of the run. Improving that section is a clearer plan than trying to drive the whole course in a panic.

Questions about Neon Race

No. The original publisher specifically tells you to smash red cars for turbo and avoid purple cars.

How many tracks does the original game have?

There are eight courses. Beating the track times is also part of the route to unlocking the SuperCar.
