About Traffic Trouble

The cars are waiting. Some have been waiting rather a long time, judging by their stress meters. Your contribution to this mess is a mouse click: red becomes green, or green becomes red. You can't give every queue permission to go, because the game limits the number of green signals. Sooner or later, somebody has to wait.

That's the whole dilemma of Traffic Trouble. Clearing the busiest-looking road feels sensible, but a driver on a quieter approach might be much closer to losing their temper. Once a stress meter fills, you get a warning. Three of those and you're out of work.

There's an odd little story around this everyday chore. It's the year 2312; robots have taken most jobs, and you're a human traffic regulator trying to hang on. Each level asks you to get a set number of cars out of traffic. Evidently even in the distant future, nobody enjoys a red light.

How to play Traffic Trouble

Clear the number of cars requested by the stage. Stay below three warnings while you do it.

  1. Read Help from the title menu, then start the game and read the briefing.
  2. Click the light for a waiting approach. It changes colour without any dragging or steering.
  3. Look away from that road once it is moving. Check the other drivers' meters and switch the signals as needed.
  4. Use Space to pause if you need to leave the game.

Tips for a better round

  • A short queue isn't necessarily a relaxed queue. Check its meters before deciding it can wait.
  • Keep a mental note of the last road you opened. Otherwise it's easy to keep favouring the same part of the screen.
  • The briefing mentions special abilities. Check their own instructions rather than treating an unfamiliar button as another traffic light.

Questions about Traffic Trouble

Do I control the cars directly?

No. Your job is the lights; you don't accelerate or steer.

Can I leave every light green?

The Help screen sets a maximum number of green lights, so you have to share the turns.

What happens after three warnings?

You lose the traffic-regulator job. The story has robots ready to replace you.
