PEAK Launches on PS5 with Crossplay for Four Climbers

PEAK's PS5 release is set for October 22. Team PEAK says the port includes the updates released so far, and crossplay lets a group of up to four climb together across platforms.

The important word in that announcement is "together". You can get three friends interested in a co-op game and still spend the evening discovering that one of them bought it on the wrong machine. Crossplay removes that particular argument. There will probably be plenty of others once someone falls off the mountain.

Team PEAK confirmed the date in an October 15 PlayStation Blog post. The team brings together developers from Aggro Crab and Landfall. They began the game during a month-long jam in Seoul in February 2025, then met again in Sweden that June to finish it. A game about keeping a group together has a fairly appropriate origin.

First up the cliff isn't necessarily the winner

Your scouts are stranded on an island. Getting rescued means climbing its central mountain, managing hunger and injuries, and helping anyone who cannot make the next ledge alone. Injuries reduce the stamina available for climbing. A bad decision can make the next part of the route harder even if you survive it.

The Steam page describes equipment such as ropes and climbing spikes, as well as the ability to pull a friend up. It also lists a new map every 24 hours. Repeat attempts within a day give a group a chance to remember the route and argue about it with slightly better information.

That is what appeals to us here. In plenty of games, the strongest player can rush ahead and finish the job. In PEAK, reaching a ledge while the others are stranded below gives you another problem to solve. Who goes back? Who has the equipment? Who ate the food?

Choose the kind of evening you want

Team PEAK says custom runs can make the climb easier or harder. That sounds useful for groups whose players have different amounts of patience. A relaxed attempt and a punishing one need not be the same session.

We haven't tested the PS5 version, so we're leaving frame rates and port quality out of this report. The confirmed news is the date, included updates and crossplay. Sharing a purchase or transferring saves across platforms would be separate features; don't assume those come with the word crossplay.
